About Hamza

Consultant. Researcher. Educator. Author.

Dr. Hamza Mbareche is a researcher, trainer, consultant and author focused on improving the environmental safety of workplaces and public spaces.

As a postdoctoral researcher of airborne microorganisms, the microbiome, genomics and bioinformatics, Hamza’s research encompasses the characterization of the aerobiome (the air’s microbiome), and the whole-genome sequencing of viruses, including SARS-CoV-2 and Influenza A, from patients and environmental samples (air and surfaces).

The foundation for Hamza’s expertise was his graduate research of high-throughput sequencing technologies applied to bioaerosols. Hamza sought a way to describe the microbial diversity of fungi and bacteria in the air of different environments and in the context of occupational exposure.

He analyzes genomic data using customized bioinformatics tools through his proficiency in Linux and coding skills in R and Python. This allows him to have more freedom and control for more efficient data analyses.

Hamza believes in building collective knowledge in the field of science through collaboration. With this in mind, he has designed and delivered training about air sampling and sequencing to diverse audiences, including undergraduate and graduate students and hospital staff.

As a recognized expert in his discipline, Hamza has also reviewed 39 publications for 26 peer-reviewed journals, many of them regarding next-generation sequencing studies.

According to Expertscape, Hamza Mbareche ranks in the top 0.25% of Air Microbiology experts worldwide. He has authored more than 30 scientific articles cited 400 times in the last five years.
